ATLANTA (Aug. 28, 2018) – Bob Somers, the senior vice president of global sales for Delta Air Lines, has begun his three-year tenure as chairman of Peach Bowl, Inc. Somers takes the reins from immediate past chair Percy Vaughn of KIA Motors this week heading into the organization’s Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game featuring No. 6 Washington vs. No. 9 Auburn on Sept. 1.
Somers previously served as vice chairman and governance committee chairman for two years during the organization’s record-setting Golden Season in 2017, which saw new organizational records for combined attendance (222,546), television viewership (25.8 million) and total team payouts ($27.5 million).
“Bob and Delta’s senior management leadership have been a critical part of Peach Bowl, Inc.’s success,” said Gary Stokan, CEO and president of Peach Bowl, Inc. “His commitment to excellence at all levels and his very high standards have helped carry our organization through numerous milestones in our history as we celebrated our 50th anniversary and made the move into Mercedes-Benz Stadium.”
Somers’ primary responsibility as chairman will be to oversee Peach Bowl, Inc.’s Board of Trustees, which governs Peach Bowl, Inc. This includes management of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf event and The Dodd Trophy.
“This is an exciting time for us as an organization with our recent contract renewal with the College Football Playoff and hosting our next Semifinal Game in 2019,” said Somers. “I’m looking forward to continuing our recent momentum and furthering our mission to build on Atlanta’s distinction as the Capital of College Football.”
Somers has more than 35 years of industry experience, beginning his time with Delta Air Lines in airport customer service. Since joining Delta in 1983, Somers has moved up through numerous positions within the airline, but currently serves as senior vice president of global sales, where he is responsible for leading a global sales team focused on maximizing premium revenue and share performance with Delta’s commercial account base.
He serves on the boards of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year and the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, along with his position as chairman of Peach Bowl, Inc. In addition to his significant roles within college football, he also serves on the boards of the Foundation for Hospital Art and the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau.
